Although my new lifestyle does not include the consumption of delicious sweets, cakes, or pastries, I thoroughly enjoyed doing some research on alternative desserts for your wedding reception. We all love a gorgeous wedding cake, but here are some new options that are far less traditional! I asked some of Wedding 101′s dessert experts to share some of their dessert options, designs, and favorite flavors with us!
CAKE POPS
Julie Parker, Owner of Party Pops by Julie
Party Pops: A delicious cross between a “cake” and a “truffle” – all coated in premium chocolate and designed to your specifications. What makes them unique is their individual size, but, more importantly, the ability of the bride/groom to customize the design to something that is uniquely theirs, and often unexpected! Though I do a lot of “pretty” pops for weddings – aka brides and grooms, pretty swirls, I also done everything from sports themed pops – golf, tennis, etc to “dog” pops to match the couple’s dog/child.
Favorite Flavors – Death by Chocolate is a favorite of everyone, including me. Even if you don’t like chocolate cake, you’ll like the “death by chocolate” cake pop. I have converted many
Strawberry, Red Velvet, lemon and Snickerdoodle are also very popular.
DESSERT BAR
Silverbox Cakes is known for her fantastic designs and delicious flavors. However, she does offer more than just cake. Kaitlin Davis, owner of Silverbox Cakes, is an undercover dessert and pastry chef! Take a look and her delicious dessert menu!
SNOW CONES/SHAVED ICE
From Retro Sno: Retro Sno loves weddings! We allow Nashville brides to WOW their guests by bringing the entire food truck experience right to their reception!
We had a blast at the Ward wedding in August 2012. Here’s what the groom, Brennan had to say:
“Our wedding is now 7 months past, and I still have people asking me about those amazing snow cones we had at our reception. I’ve also heard rumors that the picture of Anna-Catherine and I in front of the truck has been making the rounds on Pinterest (That rumor is neither confirmed or denied…) Most people can’t remember whether or not we actually said “I do”, but they seem to vividly remember what flavor they got. Ha!”
Retro Sno serves delicious snoballs (like snow cones, but wayyyy better!) out of 100% compostable cups, served with a napkin, a spoon, and a smile! Some of our signature flavors are Raspberry Wedding Cake, Vanilla Toasted Coconut, Frozen White Mocha, Pina Colada, and more. We will also create a custom menu with custom menu names JUST FOR YOU per your request.
So there you have it! If you are looking for something different, or out of the box for your reception dessert, check out any of these three unique ideas that will be sure to please you and your guests!
